PostSubject: Unwell kids...   Sun Sep 16, 2007 7:38 pm

My lovely brother buggered off to the UK on work and his wife and 1 year old neice came to stay in Raumati at my parents place. So I moved in to give her a hand. Poor baby got pretty sick with a urinary tract infection on the day he left and it has been seriously freaky for me. Doctor 4 times, hospital once - I have to admit I was totally out of my depth! I even managed to suffer my first panic attack (which my beautiful wife saved me from)... I have one question for those with kids:

How the hell do you do it...? I have a huge amount of respect for you. It has been so emotionally and physically draining.

A couple of years back our oldest dog Sweep was hammering through the undergrowth in QE11 park and a stick jammed into his cornea... we thought he was going to go blind, late night emergency surgery - mercy drive to Palmy to see the eye specialist and all that, it was horrible and really serious. I have felt this weekend much the same with a little UTI on a baby? How do you feel when it is really bad?

Arrgghhh - well that is my rant.

A.

good god your poor niece.
UTI infections are not nice for lil ones at all Sad

as for how does a parent feel well that depends.
If the child is sick you feel awful
if the child is hurt because you accidently knocked them off the bed, chose to open the recliner when they were standing in front of it, slammed their finger in a door etc then you feel a shit tonne worse LOL

hang in there Andy, its not easy at all but it gets easier ( sorta)

:affraid

hehe i am afraid to admit it beakers but its all true !

the bed was jace
the opening of recliner was me
the finger in the door was jace ( poor jayde actually is still growing back her finger nail from that one )
oh here is another one - cutting babies finger nails and them moving and you cut their wee finger tips off - yep that one was all me .. both kids

parenting is fun but so damned scary :lol

hehe i think i little bit of cold heartedness goes a long way

what do i mean by that?

if you lived and died by every little knock scrape cut your kids got youd be in a constant state of wreck
youd also be kinda ineffectual when something SERIOUS happens '

so you kinda have to displace yourself on the serious stuff and get things right, THEN you can freak out

i LOVE being a professional dad but if its taught me one thing, its DONT freak out no matter how bad it looks, cause more than likely it actually isnt as bad as you firts think

of course if it is those are LONG LONG nights

and the bed thing was you thank you wife
i had nothing to do with it

hahah beakers have you not met our boy ?
he is easily the most accident prone creature on the planet.
on the upside the kid can bounce just fine without his own castle Laughing
example - in their new bedroom they have a nook that goes under the stairs. he ran towards the small end of the nook that has hardly any head space , didnt realise the slopping roof and smacked his head into it. he then proceeded to spin around and get angry but instead bounced off the wall beside him and fell flat on his ass. see no bouncy castle required
